Vivant!

Juste un petit mot pour dire que je suis effectivement vivant.

J'avoue que je suis beaucoup plus occupé en ce début de maîtrise que je ne croyais l'être.

Bon, je retourne à mes travaux. Dans une heure, je dois rencontrer mes collègues afin de comparer nos réponses de notre devoir de Medical Radiation et Fourier Analysis. Un groupe de devoirs, c'est sympa, non?

R.I.P. Robert Jordan

Le Créateur est mort.

L'auteur de l'une de mes séries de romans de fantaisie préférée, The Wheel of Time par Robert Jordan, est décédé. Il ne restait qu'une seul livre à publier, le 12e de la série.

Robert Jordan avait un blogue officiel sur ce site: Dragonmount. Il était très près de ses fans, répondait fréquemment aux questions de ses lecteurs et semblait être un homme fantastique.

Avant de tomber malade, Robert Jordan avait toujours dit que s'il mourait, la série mourrait avec lui. Il avait demandé à ce que toutes ses notes soient détruites et à ce que personne n'achève son oeuvre. Or, dans les derniers mois, il avait commencé à tenir un autre discours. De façon indirecte sur son blogue, il laissait entendre que s'il ne passait pas au travers de sa maladie, quelqu'un d'autre pourrait terminer la série.

On a appris très très récemment de son cousin que M. Jordan a raconté à sa femme et à lui (son cousin) exactement comment se déroulait le dernier livre de façon très détaillée. De plus, on apprend aujourd'hui qu'il aurait laissé de nombreux enregistrements relatant le scénario complet du dernier volume de la série et qu'il y aurait bel et bien des plans de publier ce dernier roman post-hume.

M. Jordan, merci de m'avoir fait rêver avec vos livres. J'espère pouvoir faire un dernier bout de route avec vos enfants, Rand, Perrin, Mat, Egwene et compagnie.

Noobox!

Je suis allé faire un petit tour à Montréal avec ma mère samedi passé et voilà que je dois allonger ma liste de découvertes gastronomiques alléchantes de Montréal. Cette fois, il s'agit de Noobox, un comptoir de restauration rapide où l'on sert des nouilles! Je vous invite à regarder leur site web pour vous donner une petite idée de ce que c'est.

Pour ma part, je peux vous assurer que la bouffe est délicieuse, l'ambiance est sympa et le service est excellent. C'est un peu dispendieux, mais je crois que ça en vaut la peine. On a le choix de plusieurs bons légumes et c'est toujours mieux qu'une petite frite!

Si vous êtes dans le coin du Palais des congrés de Montréal, allez-y faire un tour!

Offre d'emploi alléchante!

Aujourd'hui, Prof. Johns, le directeur du département de physique, nous a fait parvenir une offre d'emploi de l'Ottawa Hospital Cancer Centre. En fait, c'est pas vraiment un emploi, c'est un programme de résidence, donc c'est de la formation payée pour éventuellement pouvoir occuper un vrai poste. Bref. Voici la description.


MEDICAL PHYSICS RESIDENT

The Ottawa Hospital Cancer Centre

The Ottawa Hospital Cancer Centre has an immediate opening for a Medical Physics Resident. The successful applicant will receive hands-on training over two years covering all aspects of clinical physics related to radiation oncology including radiation dosimetry, external beam treatment planning, brachytherapy, stereotactic radiosurgery and quality assurance of all radiation therapy equipment. At the completion of the program the resident will have the knowledge and experience required to apply for clinical certification. This program is currently being considered for CAMPEP accreditation.

The Ottawa Hospital is one of the largest academic hospitals in Canada with over 10,000 health care staff. The Cancer Centre serves a population of approximately 1.2 million people and treats more than 4000 patients with radiation therapy per year. Current equipment includes a tomotherapy unit, 8 linear accelerators, 2 with kilovoltage imaging, 2 CT simulators and a PET CT scanner. The centre supports active clinical programs in IGRT, IMRT, stereotactic radiosurgery and brachytherapy. In addition, the centre has just commissioned a new state-of-the-art external beam treatment planning system and has extensive electronic and machine shop facilities and support.

The preferred entry requirement is a Ph.D. in Physics or a related subject and the minimum entry requirement is an M.Sc. in Medical Physics. Candidates should also have good verbal and written communication skills, basic knowledge in radiation physics is preferred, demonstrated research ability and a strong interest in working with a multi-disciplinary medical team.

The Centre offers a competitive salary and benefits package during the training program and the opportunity to contribute to a dynamic medical physics team.


Je crois que c'est exactement ça que je veux faire après mon doctorat. J'ai encore le temps de changer d'idée, mais si j'avais mon Ph.D. en poche, j'appliquerais tout de suite!

Wheee! Shopping spree!

Aujourd'hui, c'est jour de grandes dépenses! Je suis allé magasiner un peu à Ottawa et ça m'a coûté un bras et demi. Toutefois, je suis bien content de mes achats.

D'abord, je me suis rendu au Centre national des arts. C'était l'ouverture de la billeterie pour la nouvelle saison et il y avait foule. J'ai attendu une demi-heure en ligne, mais on nous servait café et biscuits. Excellent service! J'avais en tête d'acheter 3 billets. Je suis reparti avec cinq.

  • 1 billet pour Cats, le 26 octobre, siège G6;
  • 2 billets pour Noël avec l'Orchestre du Centre national des arts, le 21 décembre, sièges G6 et G8;
  • 1 billet pour Mamma Mia!, le 28 décembre, siège C27;
  • 1 billet pour Evita, le 7 mars, siège C27.
Yep, good stuff! Je n'achète plus qu'un seul billet pour les comédies musicales puisque 1) c'est cher 2) c'est dur de trouver quelqu'un pour m'accompagner en raison du prix, justement. Le concert de Noël par contre, j'y vais avec ma petite maman et j'ai eu droit à un rabais étudiant: chouette!

Puis, direction Chapters! J'avais l'intention de me procurer le dernier volume de Complete Peanuts, mais il n'était plus disponible en magasin. Mon frère m'avait demandé de lui prendre deux livres de Stephen King, Christine et Four Past Midnight, ce que j'ai fait. Avant de passer à la caisse, j'ai aperçu un livre qui m'avait intrigué auparavant: Sorry, I don't speak French par le commissaire aux langues officielles, Graham Fraser. «Ah, pourquoi pas?» me suis-je dit. Moi qui ne lis que des romans ou des livres sur le bouddhisme, ça va faire changement de lire un essai sociopoliticolinguistique!

Ensuite, je voulais garnir ma garde-robe de quelques nouveaux articles, donc je me suis rendu... au Expedition Shoppe! Je sais, je sais, c'est une boutique d'articles de plein-air... et je ne fais pas grand plein-air! Mais j'adore les vêtements qu'on y retrouve. Bien entendu, ils sont plus dispendieux qu'ailleurs. Heureusement pour moi, il y avait une vente pour se débarrasser du vieux stock d'été. Alors j'en ai profité pour acheter des articles à 40% de rabais! Wouhou!


Devinez ma couleur préférée. Indice: regardez mon lit, mon mur... :p

Ah, et les pantalons, j'en avais acheté une paire identique il y a quelques mois. Mais je les adore tellement, que j'ai voulu en avoir une seconde! Aussi, on ne voit pas très bien le t-shirt sur la photo, mais il fait partie de la ligne Life is Good. J'aimais tellement le slogan, que c'est ce qui m'a décidé à l'acheter. Finalement, en revenant chez moi, je me suis procuré deux autres billets. Et oui! Je suis en feu! Cette fois, ce sont deux billets pour la conférence publique du Dalaï Lama à Ottawa, le 28 octobre. Le titre: Citoyenneté globale par la responsabilité universelle. Intéressant!

Le rongeur de Playstation!

Il y a quelques semaines, ça me prend: j'ai le goût de jouer à Mega Man Anniversary Collection au Playstation 2. J'insère mon CD dans la console, je choisis l'entrée component sur la télé et voilà! Mais tiens? J'ai un drôle de problème: l'image est embrouillée, il n'y a pas de son et parfois, le signal vidéo disparaît complètement. Je me dis que peut-être que les câbles audio/vidéo sont mal branchés. Je joue un peu avec la connexion entre les câbles et le PS2 et puis tout à coup, ça me frappe. Je retire mes câbles et les regarde de plus près. Ah ben maudite marde!



Mes câbles component sont rongés sur pratiquement toute la longueur! Mais... mais... comment est-ce possible?

Hmm...



Pooooooom... est-ce que ça serait toi, par hasard?

Je le voyais souvent derrière la télé et je me demandais ce qu'il faisait là. Désormais, je sais.

Hmph!
